Field of study: Performance Practice
Trial lecture: Theresa Coffey

As part of the doctoral examination, Coffey gives a lecture on a topic given by the assessment committee.
About the trial lecture
Topic for Theresa Coffey's lecture:
Repeating curatorial perform(ance)ing.
“If every performance is an iteration that is affected by the contingent circumstances of its presentation, how might a curatorial perform(ance)er prepare for and address these conditions? Could you prepare an example of a hypothetical performance at an existing festival or venue in which you have not previously performed, and propose how you might approach this consistently with the premises of your research?”
The topic for the trial lecture will be published on the 4th of June, 2025. The topic is given by the assessment committee, which comprises the following members:
- Dr Anders Førisdal, the Norwegian Academy of Music (Committee Chair)
- Dr Ed McKeon, Birmingham City University
- Dr Milla Tiainen, University of Turku
Streaming
If you are unable to attend the Norwegian Academy of Music in person, it will be possible to follow the trial lecture and the disputation through streaming. The stream will not be recorded.

We encourage the audience to attend in person because in most cases a stream will not be an adequate alternative to being present in the auditorium. This is a relatively simple production, which may cause limitations related to sound and video quality. Please note that some errors may occur.
The disputation
The disputation will be held in the auditorium at 10:15 the same day. See separate event.

Disputation: Theresa Coffey -
Theresa Coffey defends her dissertation “Becoming with curatorial performance practice” for the degree of PhD. Coffey has attended the PhD programme in Music Research.
